Why Effective Business Writing
Business Writing is adopted in the workplace to inform, collaborate, and engage in the process of doing business. Business writing takes many forms – letters, emails, memos, reports, and minutes of meetings. Theyexplain details, justify actions, convey information, and dictate action.
Sheila Viesca, TalkShop CEO informs, “Correspondence is mostly formal. But emails and memos take the middle stand. They are not as formal, but the tone should not be too casual either, so as not to come across as careless norunprofessional.”
Whether in written or electronic form, business writing style requires one to get his message across clearly. Active voice is used with a sprinkling of the passive voice. The key is balance. One cannot afford to sound blunt and terse. The written communications that build the business strongly consider tenor, form, and substance.
"Regardless of the changes in technology, the market for well-crafted messages will always have an audience."- Steve Burnett
